Thekkady, Kerala

Been there recently?

Thekkady, a town near Periyar National Park, is a major tourist centre in Kerala. The name Thekkady owes its origins to the word “thekku” which means teak. Located in the heart of the protected jungle area are the placid waters of Thekkady or Periyar Lake, famed for its expansive and broad-ranging species of wildlife. Thekkady is home to numerous rare and endangered species as well as a vibrant indigenous culture due to its wealth of tropical flora and fauna. For those who find joy in nature’s more untamed forms, Thekkady is a veritable paradise on earth.
