The Ladakh Festival, which takes place every September throughout the region of Ladakh, is a magnificent display of the local tribes, cultures, performing arts, and cuisine. This vibrant festival, which is held in the centre of Leh, combines elements of Tibetan, Central Asian, and North Indian culture. It lasts for about two weeks and kicks off with a grand parade in Leh that includes masked dances, traditional music, and representation from all the Ladakhi tribes. The Drokpas, the people of Dah Hanu, the Turtuks, and numerous others march in the parade while wearing their traditional garb, making the colourful clothing stand out. As a sea of people flows through Leh, it is incredibly fascinating to see the floral headgear, intricate silver and turquoise jewellery, and multi-hued robes of tourists. Along with participating in the festivities, the numerous monasteries and villages also organise cultural events like dance, drama, singing, and parades. Sporting events are also held throughout the celebrations, with archery and Polo being the highlights. The state government sponsors this festival every year, which is a significant time for celebrations.
