Diwali
THE LIGHT TO LIFT UP SPIRITS
The five-day festival of lights or Diwali (also known as Deepavali) is a celebration of the victory of light over darkness. It is a major festival of Hindus, celebrated throughout the world. During the festival, diyas or small earthen lamps are lit and placed in rows along the parapets of temples and houses. The diyas are also set adrift on rivers and streams. Homes are decorated, and floors inside and out are covered with rangoli, an intricate design made of coloured rice, sand, or flower petals. The doors and windows of houses are kept open in the hope that Lakshmi, Goddess of Wealth will enter and bless the family with wealth and success.
