Almora is a hill station located in the Kumaon division of Uttarakhand. It is situated on a mountain’s horseshoe-shaped ridge. Each year, tourists are drawn to Almora’s landscape for its Himalayan views, numerous temples, wildlife, cultural heritage, handicrafts, and cuisine. It is also called the cultural capital of Kumaon. It is a charming getaway that cherishes its heritage, with a mixture of colonial-era buildings and traditionally painted wooden shops. The forts, royal courts, and historical landmarks in this area are evidence of this. Several forts constructed by dynasties like the Chands and Katyuris can be found here. Almora is surrounded by forested areas and mountains, and there are a number of interesting places nearby, such as the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, which is well-known for its leopard, musk deer, Himalayan goral, jungle cat, and chital sightings. Another interesting place to visit is Lakhudiyar, which has ancient rock carvings that highlight Almora’s ancient roots. It is said that Almora flourished and rose to prominence under the Chand dynasty (700 AD-1790 AD) and later under the rule of the powerful Katuris (800 AD-1000 AD).
